Mastering one’s thoughts is a task for all believers at every stage of our journey walking with Jesus. The battle to master our thoughts is fought by embracing the Word of God and its power. God has given us everything we need to be victorious. However, we must utilize the tools God has given to reap the benefits. Consider, a meal is placed before a hungry man. If he does not eat the meal he will remain hungry. Likewise, although God has given us power, if we do not make use of it as directed we’ll never experience the fullness of God’s blessings. Luke 10:19 speak of the power given to believers over the enemy. Noticed in the Amplified Bible, Classic Edition version of the verse highlights mental strength as well as physical strength.
“Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you. Luke 10:19 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
is whether walk in the power given by God or be prey for the enemy? In order to master one’s thoughts, we must endeavor to refuse to spend even a small of amount of time on unproductive thoughts, thoughts that steer us from God’s plan. First, we must be privy to His plan to be aware of when the pathway is heading in the opposite direction of what He has intended. Spending quality time with God on a daily basis positions to know God’s will and provides clarity regarding next steps. In James 4:8, the verse informs us the way to get close to God is to seek Him out. Seeking God involves ongoing effort to surrender one’s total being to Him … our soul, mind and body. Once we accept Jesus as the Savior of our souls through believing in our heart and confessing with our mouth that He is Lord, the next step is acknowledging His Lordship over our lives. The submission of our mind is accomplished by spending time in His Word, reading it, studying it and meditating on it. The submission of our body entails living daily out loud life according to the Word of God, a visible expression of our love to God. An expression displayed in our interactions towards strangers as well as family, friends and aquatints. As God’s representatives in the earth, it’s important that the love of God overflows from those who cry Abba unto God Almighty into the lives of those within our reach. Success in this endeavor can only be accomplished in minding your business.
