Unguarded thoughts can affect every area of our lives. Particularly, thoughts that are self-demeaning, targeted at one’s own self. These thoughts tend to pollute and erode the foundation of an individual’s self worth. Moreover, they distort a person’s understanding of God’s love. Self-condemning people are an example of those who fail to embrace the love of God. When we condemn ourselves by focusing on the justice of God, we fail to realize God’s love for the human race. Moreover, it’s evident that we are unable to conceive the depth of God’s love in the midst of personal failures.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
John 3:16 highlights the extent of the measure of God’s love for us, “For God so love …, that he gave”. Beyond a declaration, love is in motion and the greatest price is accompanying with sacrifice. Genuine love gives up what is dear in order that the object of love may have the opportunity to thrive. God gave His Son that we may experience eternal life. It’s the knowledge and the understanding of God’s love for us which assists us in defeating thoughts that condemn. A healthy dose of embracing God’s love causes these thoughts to wilt, losing their grip in our minds and hearts. When we choose to view our short comings in the light of God’s love, self condemnation is weakened and dissipates.
