The Folly of Ugly and Unpleasant Thoughts

“… whatsoever things are lovely …think on these things …” 
Philippians 4:8

Ugly and unpleasant thoughts may be true due to horrific things that have happened to us but they do not warrant a constant replay of them to the point of crippling one’s ability to function in daily life.

Live is a mixture of the good , the bad and the ugly. Sometimes the joy is overflowing and we leap over hurdles with little effort. Other times it’s difficult to take the next step due to life challenges are draining our strength. During struggles of unfavorable occurrences, unlovely thoughts seek to dominate our mind each moment of the day. In order to break the cycle the thoughts, we must consciously take control of our mind by submitting to God.

There a plethora of distractions in the world that can delay us from and even block us. However, if we would just take a baby step, God not only aids in making the smallest effort but in all the steps to flow. It begins with our choice on what to think. In Philippians 4:8, we are instructed to think on lovely things, thinks that are pleasant. It’s impossible to nourish unpleasant thoughts and beautiful thoughts as the same time. The choice to think pleasing thoughts taps into the God’s mind regulating power. Despite multiple sources of unpleasantness, God is able to equip to move pass troublesome events through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
