“And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;” Ephesians 4:23
The spirit of the mind signifies the inner man, the place that dictates our thoughts, desires and emotions. The directive to renew implies a decline from a previous state of acceptability. As a result of the fall of man, the inner man fell from its original state. Before the fall, the inner self was in sync with the Creator. However, all those born after Adam have a need for the spirit of the mind to be made new again.
The purpose of the renewal is to alter our thoughts, desires and emotions to those that are pleasing in the sight of God. The change in the inner man directly impacts what we say and do moving forward in life. It’s important to realize this change is ongoing. Each day we must choose to refuse to be influenced by the world rather be led by the Spirit of God.
