Thoughts of Praise

“Finally, brethren, … if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

Thoughts filled with praise are sure to turn even the most troublesome moment into a joyous experience. Something miraculously takes place when we shift our thoughts to praise from things which are sure to continuously send our emotions spirally downward. Without a doubt, thoughts of praise are to be directed toward the almighty God. It’s these thoughts that aid in positioning our hearts to give God the praise due unto Him.

Although the bible is filled with verses inspiring us to extend admiration to the One who loves us best, we are also encouraged to have thoughts of praise toward others. In Hebrews 10:24, we find a challenge to purposefully cheer others to express love and perform good works. Praise is great motivator. When we cultivate thoughts of praise towards others, the thoughts transform into words that uplift and actions that build others.

Let’s not forget the praise toward ourselves. These thoughts should never come from a boastful disposition rather a strength to encourage oneself when no one else is around. In I Samuel 30:6, despite opposition and his own heartache, David teaches us the thoughts of praise towards oneself stems from trust in God. Whether towards God, others or oneself, praise begins with a thought.
