“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5
The act of trusting requires one to enter the realm of abandonment. In order to trust, we must put aside our feelings, opinions or just simply let go of control of a particular matter and even our life. Most people do not normally trust what they don’t believe, so before we trust, we must have experiences that build faith in what we endeavor to trust. When the decision to trust has been made, the question arises how much should we trust ranging from a little to total trust. Of course, the “how much” largely depends on what or who we are trusting. Moreover, the level of trust for any given object varies from person to person. Nevertheless, the governing source to determine what deserves only a little trust and something else unlimited trust is our thoughts.
Consider how rarely, if ever, that we test a chair to find out if it could hold our weight before sitting in it. In the verse 5 of Proverbs, the text instructs those who call on the name of God to trust Him in the same fashion, without debate. “With all the thine heart” implies with all that drives us…our heart, our feelings, our will, our thoughts…, we are to trust God with all things and in every area of life. The more we endeavor to trust God, the more our “Trusting In God” thoughts increase.
