“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.“ Colossians 3:2
The things on earth have a shelf life, which means they are temporary. Nothing here in the earth realm can be taken with us when we make the final exit for this life, no possessions (eyes of the flesh) or even achievements (pride of life). Therefore, it behooves us to have a loose grip on earthen things.
Alternatively, we must endeavor to tightly embrace heavenly things, eternal in nature, beneficial beyond our time spent on earth. Heavenly things are all things that draw us close to God. Continuous prayer is one of the ways to actively keep our minds heavenly bound. Moreover, the rejection of negative thoughts with the replacement of spirit filled thoughts is an upward projection of our thinking. An upward gaze on eternal things helps us to turn our back on troubles that seek to dominate our attention.
