“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7
Fear is an emotion which hinders and even stops us from living an abundant life. One fearful thought may only intimidate us. However, a constant flow of fearful thoughts cripples us from within until we are unable to function at our ultimate capacity. It’s true, we all experience some degree of fear from time to time. However, it is not the will of God for fear to be a guiding force in anyone’s life. The guiding force that comes from God consists of power, love and self-discipline.
Power – to think overcoming thoughts. As we journey through life, thoughts of inferiority as well as timidity, enter our minds to gain residence. The power imputed from God aids us to reject unfavorable thoughts laced with fear.
Love – to harness loving thoughts. The knowledge of God’s love for us enables to love ourselves as well as others freely with out fear.
Self-control – to maintain discipline thoughts. Sometimes fearful thoughts can cause us to behave in a manner not pleasing in God’s sight. The remedy is to push aside fearful thoughts by clinging to the thoughts that support a sound mind.
The abiding Spirit of God on the inside helps us to take courage to abandon fear-inspired thoughts. Spirit-led, we are able to make a resolution never to be enslaved to the emotion of fear again. Though me may experience a few setbacks, we only have to take one step at a time away from fear.
