“For we do not know what to pray for as we, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” Romans 8:26
Most people will declare no one knows us better than we do. After all, we have known ourselves all of our life. We know what we like and we know what we don’t like. Our favorite foods, music we enjoy, preferred clothing style… anything that make us uniquely ourselves, we are the experts. Even though, we may not also admit it, we also know what irritates or offends us the most. In Romans 8:26, it suggests otherwise, we all have unknowns deep embedded within us.
Romans 8:26 teaches the unknown, thoughts that never enter our mind, exists without any cognitive recognition from us. Therefore, on our own, we are not equip to have a conversation with God regarding the unknown within. Have you ever been feeling some kinda way and didn’t know why? We searched the events of the day for an explanation regarding what has left us with perhaps an uncomfortable sadness. Instead of finding a reason, we encounter the unknown. The good news is although the unknown may never be revealed, God’s Spirit, the indwelling Holy Spirit, helps us to pray to God regarding the unknown. The inner groanings from the Holy Spirit, unable to be expressed in words, prompts us to reach for God despite a lack of understanding concerning the unknown.
