“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us." Hebrews 12:1
The thoughts that weigh us down vary from person to person. In the physical sense, the purpose of a weight is to keep an object in a specified place or from moving such as stakes to a tent or a paper weight to paper on a desk. However, sometimes the object is all to move but the movement is limited at seen with a balloon tied on a string connected to a weight or person. The balloon flows in whatever direction a breeze blows it but within ranch of the object it’s tied.
The source of these thoughts can be from other people who we allow to dominate us along with our own minds. Thoughts of inferiority, thoughts of anxiety, thoughts of lack and thoughts of unforgivingness towards ourselves as well as others are some of the thoughts that weigh us down. Any thought that does not lift us up according to God’s will is a weight. Like a weight in the physical sense, it holds us back or limits the range of what God has in stored.
As we go through life we must be mindful of thoughts that keep us from soaring into the abundant life intended by God. The awareness of the thoughts that weigh us down is only the first step to elevation. We must always endeavor to remove these defeating thoughts from our thinking and fill its spot with a thought that causes us to take flight.

“God has given us a spirit of power to uproot any thought that weighs us down.”_ASA
