Cheerful Thoughts are Good Medicine

“A joyful heart is good medicine, 
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22

Physically, the four major functions of human bones are support, movement, protection and production of blood & storage for important minerals. For the most part, humans bones are keep healthy by eating foods rich in calcium & vitamin D, exercising – strengthen training and avoiding habits, like smoking, hazard to one’s health. If the bones become brittle, these major functions are compromised. Likewise in the spirit realm, if we are not engaging in disciplines to uplift our spirit, a sadden spirit weakens our ability to resist all that will defeat us from within and outwardly.

Cheerfulness of mind, cheerful thoughts, equips us for the ups and downs along life’s journey. Cheerfulness of mind is not connected to outward circumstances. It is a conscious decision to remain emotionally stable, full of joy, despite the circumstances. Joyful when things go our ways and joyful when opposition surrounds us. A joyful heart is empowered by a reservoir of God’s Word stored within. The Word of God flowing from a joyful heart releases not only healing to those who obtain it but those in proximity.
