“A joyful heart makes a cheerful countenance, but sorrow of the heart crushes the spirit” Proverbs 15:13
Rejection, grief, regret, distress and sadness are avenues to the destination called “sorrow of the heart”. Rejection brings with it the feelings of not being enough. The pain of loss accompanying grief is inseparable. “I wish I did it differently” thoughts bully us into the disposition of regret. Distress defined as extreme anxiety robs us of the joy of the present moments. Sadness is the emotion that hitches a ride with the previous mentioned paths of sorrow. The unbearable weight of dejection breaks our spirit crippling us in our tomorrows.
The remedy to a broken spirit is to travel upstream to a happy disposition. We can begin by filling our heart with joy according to the Word of God. The joy, a happiness, that continues even if when things are going wrong. The joy that strengthens us to refuse to allow the feelings, thoughts and pain of sadness to dominate. The joy the encourages us to make a decision to take baby steps away from a depressed state of being. The joy that flows over into a cheerful countenance.
