The Pitfall of Prideful Thoughts

“Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord;
Assuredly, he will not be unpunished.” Proverbs 16:5

In Analysis of Verbal and Nonverbal Communication and Enactment – The Processing Issues, Poggi and D”Errico discuss three types of pride and their expression. First, dignity seen when an individual takes pride in oneself or the works of one’s hand. It’s thought to come from a place of valuing and honoring one’s self-worth. Of the three types of pride discussed, it is the less harmless although it titters on the border line of becoming known as being proud,The other two types pride, superiority and arrogance, tosses us into the arena which guarantees punishment. Proverbs 16:18 echoes a similar sentiment by declaring pride is the guide to destruction and arrogance causes a person to loose one’s footing.

Prideful thoughts invites a blanket of destruction into our future. Devaluing others to obtain a false sense of grandeur is  our ruin. Extolling others about ourselves is the upper path to travel as a defense against these thoughts.

“Nourishing prideful thoughts guarantees a downward spiraling outcome”_ASA
