Counsel in the Midst of Troubling Thoughts

“I will bless the LORD who counsels me —
even at night when my thoughts trouble me.” Psalm 16:7 CSB

Our troubling thoughts seem to have free rein as the distractions during the day subsides with the setting of the sun.  The thoughts run rapid with no borders. In the night, troubled thoughts of past failures weigh us down. Thoughts of insecurities plague us regarding our future. Current challenges constantly replaying in our minds robbing us of serene sleep. In stillness, where we expect to find peace, instead the thundering inner sounds of troubling thoughts seem to have their way.

It is through submission to the Lord’s counsel, what troubled us is no longer a thought in the night. Under God’s counsel, we receive forgiveness from past failures. In the present, He also directs our mind concerning next steps, if only we ask. The future is brighter as we seek God’s will under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. God’s counsel dismisses the troubling thoughts from dominating our minds in the night. Even if the night persists into the day. The Light of the world shines bright, overshadowing the troubling thoughts in the night.

especially in times of trouble”_ASA
