Meaningless Thoughts

“Therefore, I tell you and insist on in the Lord not to live any longer like the gentiles live, thinking worthless thoughts.” Ephesians 4:17

We all are guilty of allowing our minds to meditate on things or even people which are not beneficial in any manner to our lives. When was the last time you spent an excessive amount of time regarding what you should have said or done to respond to pointing criticism? Perhaps you find yourself massaging in your mind over and over again all the bad things that may happen to you, to the point you now live behind a wall of fear. Alas, are you entangled with thoughts of how people view you as a person, driving you to be uncomfortable in your own skin?

Ephesians 4:17 pleads with us to stop giving our mental energy to meaningless thoughts that only deplete us.  As children of God, it is a calling to elevate our thoughts heavenward. The plea is intensively made due to what we give our minds to influences our emotions. How we feel about life, others and ourselves impact our actions. Worthless thoughts lead to meaningless words. Meaningless words lead to illogical actions. It’s to our advantage to steer clear of worthless thoughts in order to be free from the dismal consequences likely to follow.
