Leave the Past in the Past

“Do not call to mind the former things;
 pay no attention to the things of old.” Isaiah 43:18

Depending upon the individual, reminiscing about the past can be an enjoyable experience or a haunting memory. In either case, short-lived thoughts of the past, every now and then, mildly affects our disposition, if any at all. However, frequent and extended visits to the past transports us from remembering the past to living in the past. When living in the past becomes a common place, we are in danger of missing out on life. Constantly, living in the past has a way of stealing moments in the present and disregarding the future.

Ending our residence with the past requires us to choose repeatedly to live in the present. The intensity to break free from the past varies from person to person, depending upon one’s relationship with the past. Individuals whose identities are entangled with the past or have suffered deep hurt find it difficult to let go. With God’s help, all things are impossible. Letting go of the past enables us to live within the new days that God has planned, the hope and a future.

“Embracing the present empowers us to let go of the past.”_ASA
