"And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty." 2 Corinthians 6:18
Dad, Daddy, Pa, Pappy, PaPa and Father are all endearing names normally ascribed to men who have loved and cared for us, nurturing us psychologically and spiritually, as well as physically. Sometimes without a role model from their own youth, for whatever the reason along with no manual to follow, they strived to do the best they could ensuring we had a chance to make it in the world. Despite being flawed, they showed up to the task of guiding us in our helpless state until we could stand on our own. Some of us are thriving today because of our earthly father’s investment in our lives. While others are still recovering from their earthly father’s imperfections, particularly, the lack of his presence.
Regardless of the deficiencies of our earthly fathers, whether small or many, our heavenly Father is well able to make up for their shortcomings. In fact, God’s capacity to love us so dearly supersedes the acts of whom we would esteemed as a “good” dad. God’s unending patience assures us His love will continue to flow towards us even in the midst of our bad judgements, mistakes and foolish actions. Although we don’t always understands His ways, we can trust that God has our best in mind for every area of our lives. As the good Father, God is always with us, watching over us .
