Pleasing God

“And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.” John 8:28

Due to our inherit sinful nature, it’s not difficult to appease the desires of our flesh. The spiritual meaning of the term flesh pertains to our bodies. Whatever our bodies  wants, we naturally engage in actions to gratify its cravings such as food, activities, or drugs. Unfortunately, some cravings can become uncontrollable to the point of addiction. Regardless of the intensity of our yearnings, within our strength, the end result leads to defeat.

Pleasing God requires us to consistently say no to the desires of the flesh. In order to reject the opposing inner drives to the will of God, we need His help. As the  children of God, He has empowered us through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The power to overcome uncontrollable yearnings as well as nagging bad habits flows when we choose to submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit at all times and in all things. Holding to the truth of Philippians 2:3, we are confident we can please God in everything.

“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”
