“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men” Colossians 3:23

Motives are the reasons why we do what we do. These reasons vary for person to person. The variation amongst the reasons are due multiple sources such as our experiences, worldview, level of self-esteem, financial resources and the list goes on. Simply put, we all are motivated to please God or men. As men pleasers, which includes pleasing ourselves, our priorities are governed by the flesh and the things of the world. As God pleasers, every motive is God inspired with the intent to live according to God’s will as directed in His Word.
Pleasing God entails that in whatever we do, it must be done in a wholeheartedly manner with the desire to please God. The mindset or the inner workings behind our actions are important to God. Pleasing God is not something we can accomplish in our own strength. The good news is that God orders our steps and empowers us by the Holy Spirit to please Him with the right mindset. When we reach for God’s help in all the areas of life, He reaches back to bring about His Will in our lives.
