Like Christ in Our Relationships

“In your relationships with one another,
have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:” Philippians 2:5 NIV

A mindset like Christ entails embracing the values of Christ as well as mimicking his dispositions. Above all, we know Jesus viewed his purpose in the earth was to do the will of God. By submitting to God’s will, he brought glory to God. The motivation of his actions was not to bring attention on himself but to point people to the God the Father. It’s no wonder, on more than one occasion after healing someone, Jesus gave the instruction not to tell anyone. The end of Jesus’ earthly life, the humbling of himself open the way to redeem of the world back to God.

In Philippians 2:5, we are informed to give thought to the mindset of Christ in our relationships. Whether is our family or a stranger on the street, the guiding force behind our responses along with thoughts towards others is “What Would Jesus Do?” Seeking out the will of God regarding new and old relationships to discover one’s role in a relationship is a good place for guidance in expressing the mindset of Christ. Moreover, making a point to be put others’ interests above our own helps us to fight against selfishness, which negatively affects any relationships. Lastly, like Christ, humbling of oneself can impact those in relationship with us significantly.
