“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” Psalm 139:23-24 ESV
Overtime, toxins can seep into our bodies from sources such as products used on our skin or air pollutants. As a result, our bodies ceased to function properly. In order to reverse the affect of the toxins, we may consider to consume a cleansing beverage or some may prefer to place detox pads on their feet to remove the toxins from the body. Like our bodies, from time to time, so does our minds need to undergo a cleansing.
Most of us are guilty of holding things in our hearts unknowingly as well as knowingly that generate foul and unsavory thoughts. Thoughts characterized by, but not limited to, lack of forgiveness, bitterness, self-pity or judgmental of others and even oneself. Like tangible toxins, these intangible toxins can influence us in an unfavorable manner. Each having an impact to hinder us from being healthy spiritually, emotionally and physically. In some circumstances, our financial prosperity can become impaired. When blinded by our feelings, it takes God to open our hearts to things we have unconsciously buried for a variety of reasons, depending on the individual. The cleansing of our thoughts begins with asking God to examine our heart. What disposition and worldview are we allowing to dictate the content of our thoughts?
“You know when I sit down and when I rise up [my entire life, everything I do]; You understand my thought from afar.” Psalm 139:2 AMP
The purpose to invite God to scrutinize the source of our intentions and thoughts signifies the we are voluntarily open to God’s findings. The gesture expresses our freewill being bent towards the will of God. It is not to inform God of what we are thinking. God is all-knowing, which means is knows everything. He is the Alpha and Omega; there is nothing that we thought in the past, thinking in the present or will think in the future that God does not know. As we submit to God’s guidance regarding what to let go of and what to incorporate, the cleansing of our thoughts are realized. For some it will be instantaneously while for others it be a “moment-by-moment” unveiling. Nevertheless, in each situation, we can count on God to create in us a new heart for the cleansing of our thoughts.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10
